What you need
Which documents are required depends on the case. As a rule you will need:
- •Registration certificate Part I (Fahrzeugschein) and Part II (Fahrzeugbrief)
- •eVB number — the electronic insurance confirmation from your insurer
- •A signed SEPA direct debit mandate for vehicle tax
- •A valid roadworthiness certificate (HU / TÜV)
- •The existing number plates, where the vehicle already has them
- •A copy of your passport, ID card or residence permit
- •The signed authorisation — we send you the completed form
The registration office only accepts original documents. Photos and scans cannot be used. Send us photos on WhatsApp beforehand and we will check that nothing is missing — then we collect the originals or you bring them to us.
Common questions
Do I have to go to the registration office myself?
No. You give us the documents and a signed authorisation, and we take care of the appointment and the paperwork.
How long does it take?
We submit your case on the next working day. How quickly the authority processes it is not up to us, so we do not promise a fixed number of days. We contact you the same day the plates are ready.
Could I not do this online myself?
Often yes, and then it is cheaper. Since September 2023 registration can be done online through the i-Kfz portal. You need a German ID card with the online function activated, its PIN, and intact security codes on the vehicle documents and the plate sticker. Foreign passports and most residence permits will not get you into the portal, and on used cars the codes have usually already been scratched off.
When and how do I pay?
On handover, once everything is done. No advance payment and no deposit.
Do you also work for companies?
Yes. For company vehicles we additionally need a commercial register extract or the trade registration, plus an authorisation signed by an authorised representative.
